January 2015 | Week Four

Adela, you had your very first ballet recital this week. You did great! I thought you might be nervous, but you didn’t show it at all. You even remembered to leap across the stage when it was your turn. We went and saw Big Hero 6 in an empty matinee theater. And you guys built a fort with Jasmine on Thursday while I was working. Adela, you called it a “blanket hotel.” There are a lot of tea parties happening these days. Josiah, you like them as much as sister does. You get such a kick out of drinking water (or occasionally real tea with lots of sugar) out of those little cups. And Adela loves having a guest at her table.

{Special Report} – Goodbye Mista

Not many things in my life have been constant for the past 15 years. I’ve been a mom for 5 of that, lived in this town for 7 of that, loved the same man for 14 of that.
I got him in college, and moved him across the mountains, then across the county, then across the country again. He lived with me in 3 states, in 8 homes, and drove thousands of miles with me. A lot of cats have an evil side. Not this one. He was 99% sweet. He loved to suck on hair. He love-nipped our hands when he was happy. He was always offering up his big belly for rubbing. He made crazy noises at flying bugs. In his youth, he was an amazing jumper. He was a lover, a cuddler. He always had his purr on. He winked. Tuna was his favorite. Ice cream too. He’d eat just about anything. I trained him to sit and stay. He weighed 24 pounds at his heaviest, probably 5 of that was fur. He was super soft and fuzzy. He had beautiful green eyes. He let us dress him up. He loved Costco boxes. He swam in Idaho. He walked on a leash in New York. He picnicked in New Hampshire. He stared down a buffalo in Wyoming. We called him Mista, or Mista Guy as much as we called him Jeffrey. He lived a long, full life around people who loved him. We’ll miss him.

Rest in Peace, Jeffrey. I couldn’t have asked for a better cat.

January 2015 | Week Three

This week you guys started a new thing… dancing on Adela’s bed. I bought some new music last week and the Hillsong worship disc you guys are listening to in these photos has become a fast favorite. There has also been a lot of playing doctor lately. You guys are so good together. I’m getting sad thinking about how next year you will be gone during the days, Adela. I’m not convinced I can do it. Homeschooling is not entirely off the table. I wish there was a way to keep the 3 days per week thing going. Josiah is going to miss you… but that’s still a ways off. It’s only January. I’ll put a bandaid on that and deal with it later.

It was also a sad week. After 15 years, Jeffrey left us. I’ll put a little memorial post together for him next. I’m glad you guys got to know him for a few years. He was a special guy. He’ll be missed.2015-January---family-616-WEB2015-January---family-632-adj-WEB2015-January---family-639-WEB2015-January---family-679-WEB2015-January---Family-29-(2)-adj-crop-WEB2015-January---Family-701-WEB2015-January---Family-704-WEB2015-January---Family-739-adj-WEB2015-January---Family-764-WEB2015-January---Family-770-WEBuntitled-62-WEBuntitled-73-adj-WEBuntitled-64-WEB6_6H-2x-fB-WEB
