{Special Outing} February 2015 | Ocean Camping

Starting with an early morning bath to start you out clean, and ending with a walk on the pier, we had another great trip to Oceanside. These trips are so relaxing. It’s a lot of work to put it all together, to pack and unpack. But I love it so much, I don’t mind. Our typical trip involves a lot of bike riding (Adela, you tried out your new scooter this time), some swimming in the pool (we spent time in the hot tub since it’s still just a tad chilly), some beach time in the sand and surf and lots of walking along the beach (and running for me… 20 miles this trip!) We missed out on the Street Fair this time since we weren’t there on a Thursday night which was a bummer, but we managed to find another farmer’s market in another town on Sunday where our favorite cake guy was selling his most delicious baked goods. We got three pieces, key lime, chocolate, and sweet potato. One of the best parts of Oceanside is the cake. Oh yes. And we did still walk around downtown, stopping at our smoothie spot for refreshment after a long walk. We also usually stop either on the way there or back, at the Winchester Farms Fruit Stand. I bought some chocolate-covered cinnamon bears there. Oh, there were good.

All this makes me thing…As I write this, I’m sugar detoxing… 7 days now without any sugar. I’m going for 60 days. I do love my sweets! But I need to train some balance into my life. I don’t want to pass on this crazy sugar addiction to you kiddos. It’s been my last fitness hold out and I’m ready to take charge of it. Although, I can’t lie. Thinking about that cake has my mouth watering…

Oh, and I wiped out on the pier on my last run of the trip. Yup. Flew headfirst and skidded over those beautiful uneven boards. I was mortified. I had to go to the chiropractor to get my neck put back in. But I’m back to normal now, thank God. Lesson learned. Enjoy the ocean view on my runs, but pay attention to my feet on the pier. Too bad I didn’t get a picture of that, right?

Feburary 2015 | Week Three

We spent another night in the ER this week, our third with you, Jo. (We’ve yet to take your sister. <knocking on wood>) You had a barky cough and were having a hard time breathing again. After the last time when I was scolded by the nurses for not bringing you in sooner (I didn’t know! :(), I didn’t want to take any chances… so 2am, it was you and me, buddy, heading down the hill. We got out of there around 7am I think. You were fine. Better safe than sorry.

Adela, you are supremely into coloring these days. You color EVERY day. You love it. So, you were wide-eyed with wonder when I revealed this coloring sheet (crinkled backdrop paper I would have otherwise thrown away). You and your brother had fun coloring all over the floor. You’ve become quite the little artist, staying inside the lines and thoughtfully drawing and creating your pictures and projects. You have an art project bin now. I’ll put random paper, googly eyes, stickers, paint, glue, scissors, and other craft supplies in it and let you create whatever you like. It’s pretty neat. I need to take a picture…. writing that down right now so I don’t forget.

Josiah, you now call all emergency vehicles, “woowee woowee” (make it sound like a siren). It’s adorable. You are also a big dancer. I love to see you bob your head whenever you hear a good beat. And for some reason, you especially like the ABC song. I sing it to at naptime and you think it’s the greatest. Lately you’ve been saying “Siah sees…. <moon, truck, car, train, birds>” a lot. You love to point out things to us. I also think it’s cute and interesting that you call yourself “Siah”. We call you “Siah” but not more than we call you Jo, JoJo, Josiah John, Bear, Bear Claw, Bubba, SiahSon, and probably a half dozen others. You picked “Siah” as the one that defines you.

The end of the week left us getting read to go to the beach. Our camper has missed us. Hurray for camping!

Feburary 2015 | Week Two | Studio Backgrounds & Hockey Games

Our downstairs has been in a perpetual state of newborn studio readiness for a couple of weeks now since I have a couple of clients who’ve been due any minute. It’s been fun to have a clean background to shoot you guys on. Sometimes a good, simple head shot is what it’s all about. I want to remember these sweet faces. This first one, wasn’t planned. It just happened. It’s unedited and a testament to your smiles, Jo. I smile. You smile back. 99% of the time. You’re *that* smiley. I love you so much, you little stinker butt. You’re a handful and you’re noisy and you’ve embarrassed me in public a great many times, but you do this. And you love me so much. It’s not hard to love you back. It would be impossible to not adore you with my whole heart.

We all went to a hockey game on Valentine’s day. A first for both of you. It was just as fun to watch you as it was to watch the game. And it was a good game. Tied at 4-4 at the end of the third and three fights, one within in the first 2 minutes of game play. You’ve been successfully initiated into the enjoyment of the greatest team sport.

Feburary 2015 | Week One

Josiah, this week you started regularly donning sister’s princess shoes. But you generally put only one on. I think it might be a little too challenging for you to balance in both. It’s no wonder, with you having a big sister who is daily gowned up and ready for the ball. I think it’s sweet that you want to play with her just like she plays with you and your trains. You’re boy enough to handle a pair of heels. I think they suit your big personality. We also took you guy’s to your first drive in movie. We all squeezed into the front seat of the truck and watched Paddington Bear. You both laughed out loud at the funny parts and got popcorn all over Daddy’s truck. Good times.
