{Typical Day} February 1, 2014 | Camping

February 1, 2014

This was our maiden voyage, our first trip on our new camping trailer. It was a long process of waiting and saving and looking and weighing options, until we were finally able to purchase this one. It’s perfect. We stayed in Champagne Lakes for our first 2 nights. It’s nothing too special, just a little RV park in the middle of Escondido and a few man made ponds filled with geese and ducks and surrounded by trees. There was also a playground and a pool (too cold to use at this time of year.) We chose it because it seemed to be the best of both worlds – full hookups AND nature – and only a couple of hours away. It worked out well and gave us a chance to work out the kinks, which we both expected and experienced. The biggest problem we encountered was a broken thermostat. After we put both of you to bed and realized that we would need to turn it on given the 40 degree weather, we found it didn’t work. But your Daddy is amazing, and a couple of hours later he had figured out the TWO problems, a kinked hose that wasn’t allowing gas to pass and a faulty thermostat. He unkinked the hose by flashlight and figured out why the thermostat wasn’t working. We collaboratively and temporarily fixed it by pulling two bobby pins from my hair and a dime from my wallet to hold a necessary connection that wasn’t being made otherwise. I meant to take a picture, but forgot. We were both pretty proud of our MacGyvering. Funny… I just realized you two will probably have no idea who MacGyver is. Actually, I take that back. We will be watching reruns when you’re a bit older. 😉

{Typical Day} January 27, 2014 | Dentist

January 27, 2014

Adela, you were so brave. The Dentist gave you a score of 99%, confirmed there is still lots of room in your mouth for more teeth to come in, and strongly encouraged us to up the flossing. You are a little terrified of the chair when they start moving it. I had to hold your hand and assure you that you weren’t going to tip over backwards. You picked a deck of cards off of the “giving tree” in the office after your cleaning. We took it into Starbucks after, and I taught you how to play War. You caught on quickly and lost interest almost as quickly, wanting to move on to playing your own card game inventions.

{Typical Day} January 26, 2014 | In Your Rooms

January 26, 2014

Josiah, you’ve been sick a lot. It seems like if it’s out there, you catch it. Nothing huge, just little colds. This one was a little more serious. Your fever got up to just under 105. Almost landed us in the emergency room. But you bounced back quickly.

Adela, you are beginning to enjoy alone time in your room. In this instance, I offered to read to you and you opted to get your own selection of books and read them to yourself. It’s cute to listen to you tell yourself the story according to the pictures. You went through about 6 Dr. Suess books in a row on this afternoon.
