Photo Post – 9 Month Portraits

Hey Baby, So I’m about to fill you in on your typical day now that you’re nine months old, but I’m sorting through all the photos I took this month and I’m having a hard time narrowing it down. You’re such a good little model. I am overwhelmed with evidence. So, here’s a couple of my favorites taken a few days ago in our backyard at high noon under our desert willow.

I think I’m going to start adding Photo Posts to your blog, that way I don’t have to wait for something to write about to share more of the photographs that otherwise just sit on my hard drive. I know your Granny and Grandpa and Mima and Papi and Aunts and Tias will appreciate seeing a few more photos of you growing up.

Here’s the first installment.

Your Daddy and I built that little brick patio to expand the sitting area in our backyard when we first got to the desert over 3 year ago. There’s a beautiful pink-flowered desert willow that gives it shade in the middle of the day. You were completely fascinated by all the random plant matter stuck in the crevices between the bricks. You almost had flower petal for lunch a few times during our little photo session.

I love the way the light is hitting your hair in this one, and the way the wind is blowing it, and your sweet, open expression.

That’s your “Hi Momma” grin. You’re probably wondering why I’m on my belly in the dirt photographing you again.  I had to capture the cutest little Osh Kosh sandals Tia Carmen gave you.

I Love you, Cookie.

Sixth FIRSTS of 2010

We’ve already covered – in words and pics – most of your latest firsts in previous posts. But in order to be consistent, and because I’m getting behind, and even though it’s going to be a bit redundant, we’ll run down the list again. Besides it’s fun for me to reminisce over the milestones of the past month.

July 24, 2010 – The first time you “SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT”!!!!!! You went to bed at 6pm, woke up at 10:30pm to eat, then slept from 10:30pm to 6:00am! 7.5 hours straight. Even though technically you woke up once, I didn’t have to get out of bed since I was already up, so I’m counting it. Sleeping through the night, came on very gradually. You kept to your “textbook” baby tendencies and decided, right around 8 months, that you were going to start sleeping longer and longer periods. We sometimes let you cry  if your sounds could be described as closer to fussing than to wailing, and you often dozed back off without intervention. We comforted you whenever you seemed truly upset, checking your diaper, rocking you and fixing your blanky, using feedings only as a last resort, and – on your own – you grew up, needing us less and less frequently at night. I’m proud of you, big girl.

July 25, 2010 – First time you SAID LA-LA-LA. So cute. I’m not sure why, but that sound makes you seem more grown up than some of the other ones.  Also, this was the first day that you FELL ASLEEP ON YOUR TUMMY. You ending up face down and whined and fussed while I watched hidden for about 20 minutes, at which point you finally fell asleep exhausted on your stomach. You haven’t been afraid to be on your stomach in your crib since then and have discovered just how comfy stomach sleeping is. Also the first time you FED YOURSELF BANANAS! I cut them up in little chunks and you tried to get them with your fingers, but ended up succeeding by using your whole hand. You got at least 4 chunks into your mouth successfully. See Pics HERE.

July 30, 2010 – First time you SAT IN A RESTAURANT HIGH CHAIR. We went to Red Robin and I fed you your food before I ate mine because, of course, as soon as you saw me eating you wanted some too. You did pretty well in your special chair for about 10 minutes though. I ended up holding you for the majoring of our stay, but it wasn’t too bad for your first try.

July 31, 2010 – First time you wore a BARRETTE in your hair!  Also, your First TRIP TO PORTOS, the awesomest Cuban bakery in Glendale. We picked up a beautiful and delicious Tres Leches Cake for your Papi’s Birthday before visiting Grandma in Burbank. We will be frequenting this place when you are old enough to enjoy Medianoches, Cortaditos and Refugiados. Yum.

August 1, 2010 – First time you definitely SAID “DADA.” Actually, it was very strange. I was telling Mima and Daddy that I had a dream the night previous that you were saying DaDa and Momma really clearly. Then, in reality, you said both Mama and Dada back to back – right after I finished telling the story. We were all in awe. A prophetic dream? Also, the first time you SLEPT TWELVE HOURS without intervention. Wow! It’s official. You slept through the night. Read more about it HERE.

August 7, 2010 – First INTERACTIVE TOY STORE EXPERIENCE at Baby’s ‘R’ Us. Usually you observe from the carrier or the shopping cart, but this time we let you loose. You had a blast playing with Toy Story characters, sitting in princess chairs and plastic pools, and checking out assorted hula hoops. See Pics HERE.

August 8, 2010 – First Cracker! You had a Baby Mum Mum rice cracker, and you gobbled it all up on your own, loving every second. They’re really airy and light and they dissolve very quickly when they get wet, so I don’t have to worry about you choking as long as I keep an eye on you.

August 10, 2010 – After multiple refusals to nurse and the beginning signs of dehydration, I finally broke down. After months of struggles, you had your First FORMULA BOTTLE. Instead of the expected disappointment, I felt RELIEF! You love bottles and you gobbled it straight down. I felt such satisfaction that you got what you wanted and needed without any drama. Halleluia! Also, your first TOOTH showed up!! Your bottom left is the first to poke its head through. See Pics HERE.

August 13, 2010 – I have had rubber bands in your closet for the past almost 9 months. Today I finally got to put them in your hair! You are sporting your first pigtails today and it is beyond…. BEYOND… Adorable. Also, your first PLAYDATE. Yes, the girls were all much older than you, but you played none the less. We went to the park and Faith and Rebekah became your surrogate big Sisses.  See More Pics HERE.

August 17, 2010 – First FAUX HAWK. You have hair now. What can I say? It’s been a hair kind of month. I’ve been waiting to do something other than brush it for 9 months after all. 🙂

August 20, 2010 – Noticed your SECOND TOOTH poking through, the mate to the first one you got on the bottom. It’s getting increasinly difficult to view your toofers. You don’t want to let me see, so no pic yet. You still aren’t showing any signs of discomfort. You like to rub your tongue around in your mouth against them and you bite down on anything that goes in your mouth like a little Venus Fly Trap – toys, my fingers, the spoon when I feed you.

August 25, 2010 – First COLD. You caught it, and two days later I caught it too. You’ve been a trooper. You only got fussy when your temp got up to 103. The fever only lasted a few hours. The runny nose and cough have lasted a few days so far. I’m positive you got it from the church nursery last Sunday. But what can I do? I’ve protected you for 9 months. At some point you have to start building up those immunities, right? Good news is, you won’t ever get this exact virus again. Hurray! One down, just a couple hundred to go.

August 26, 2010 – First FROZEN YOGURT which you liked and first TEETHING BISCUIT which you loved. Oh man, you loved that teething cracker. You were covered from head to toe in glue-like paste by the time you finally dropped it on the floor and I threw away the remainder. I have to watch you pretty closely with them since they’re much harder than the Mum Mums and eventually chunks do break off, but they are wonderful and keep you entertained for long periods of time. You love the way they feel on your gums. If you keep up the gnawing, you’re going to have a full set of teeth before we know it.

And just for funsies, here’s a picture of you at 8 Months when I started compiling the information in this post.

And here’s what you look like today, at the conclusion of the information in this post, almost exactly 1 month later. I can’t believe how fast you change. You look a tad less like a beautiful baby and a tad more like a beautiful little girl every day.

Big Day – Toys ‘R’ Us!

So, this isn’t the first time we’ve been to Toys (/Babies) ‘R’ Us with you. Far from it. Your doctor is right down the street from the nearest one, and that’s just one of the excuses we find to browse around what has become our new favorite store. It’s incredible how one’s world changes when one has a baby. Fun takes on a new face.

You, however, have typically found our baby superstore shopping experiences less than exhilarating given that you are usually exhausted from the hour drive out there, your doctor’s appointment, sitting through lunch with your parents, plus whatever other stops we’ve had to make on that particular day. Usually by the time we get to Toys ‘R’ Us you are plum tuckered out and want nothing more than your crib. You have been fussy every time we’ve been (by no fault of your own), until Today!

We didn’t wait for the excuse of a doctor’s appointment this time and went straight to the store with no stops, and the result was – you had a blast!

You started out in the shopping cart while we grabbed the few things we needed to purchase. I gave you a huge Koosh Ball. That fascinated you for quite some time.

Then, the real fun began. Instead of passively observing from your carrier, wrap, or cart, we let you loose!

I could hear you thinking, “It’s about time!” Your little feet were stomping like mad. Click click click went your Jellies. There’s no place like Toys ‘R’ Us. There’s no place like Toys “R” Us.

Daddy introduced you to all the Toy Store Characters. BullsEye was your favorite. He got big smiles. Good choice!

Meeting Rex was a little scary since he roared at you, but Daddy was there to make sure you were safe.

By the time we were ready to leave the Toy Story Section, you were ready to join the cast. Look at you. Way cuter than Jessie, or Bo Peep for that matter. You’re a shoe in.

Then, Momma had fun staging you all around the store. You were a good sport, hanging out in swimming pools…,

….playing with hula hoops on the floor….,

…and lounging in your first princess chair.

I think I speak for both your Daddy and I when I say that today got your Daddy and I excited – even more excited – to watch you grow up. We saw the future – more possibilities, more fun, more activities, experiences. We saw our little girl grow up a little bit more. It was a good day.

Big Day – Pigtails!

The day has arrived! Your hair is finally long enough to put into pigtails. You are officially a little girl. All of a sudden, you look all grown up. I cannot get over how stinkin’ cute you are. Seriously, you are the cutest baby I’ve ever seen. And I can say that because I’m your Momma and I’m supposed to.

I had so much fun taking pictures of you today. I’ll keep it short and sweet, because who needs words when there’s this…

…and this…

…and this…

…and this…

…and this…

….and this…

And those are just a few of my favorites. Can’t get over it. You are so cute you should charge admission. Hey, that’s not a bad idea. It might pay for college. 😉
