I regret that we don’t have pictures of the first home we purchased in New Hampshire a dozen years ago. Never again! For 11 years this building in the desert has been our home. I love our home. It isn’t fancy. It’s a constant work in progress. The windows are drafty. We have popcorn ceiling in the great room still (though we’ve scraped every other room.) The bathrooms leave much to be desired. We have done a lot and there is a lot yet to do. But it’s comfortable and homey, and I love the way it makes me feel. Here’s the tour, so you guys can remember the house you both came home from the hospital to and have spent the first 5 and 8 years of your life in. Our castle.
I have lost a lot of motivation in the past couple of years when it comes to photographing our daily life. Hot or cold. On or off. It’s a part of my personality I am constantly trying to equilibrate. I used to take too many pictures. Now, I rarely get my camera out unless I’ve planned to get some portraits of your changing faces, or if we’re doing something special. But it’s the everyday stuff that passes us by, that we forget, that I cherish, that I will miss. Time marches on, and I pang to ponder Josiah now 5, Adela almost 8. Pang. Paaaang. It’s going to go by so fast. And I gotta keep it fresh so I don’t give up. I’ve done 365s. That’s too much of a commitment for me. I’m at a point in my life where sitting in front of the computer for endless hours seems like a poor choice of time spending. So, I’ve decided to attempt something. One day per month when my camera becomes a part of our family and goes wherever I go. No staging, no fuss, no overthinking it. I’m going to try to do it once per month through 2018. This month was my first run. Getting a jump start on next year. I also commit to not fuss about editing these pictures. Quick adjustments in Lightroom. No making things perfect. Or worrying too much about art. Just real life.
Here we go. November 11, 2017. A Saturday. The first Saturday in forever that I can remember we didn’t have ANYWHERE we had be… at least until dinner time. It is so blessed to just be able to stay home and hang out in our jammies. None of us set our alarms. We put the stickers on Josiah’s crane. We made a frittata. We did a devotion. Craig got the fireplace ready for the winter which means I now get to sit in my favorite spot in my favorite season with my toes warm. We did crafts. We sang Christmas songs along with my rusty piano playing. We played Mario. Adela taught Josiah in a very creative way, how to pump his legs on the swing. Thanks to her efforts, he did it on his own successfully for the first time ever. Then we got ready to go out for the evening. Before heading to the Alabama concert (what I gave Daddy for his birthday), we stopped at Party City to pick up supplies for Adela’s 8th birthday, happening in two short weeks.
It’s a little taste of a normal day for us. One version of it anyway. We’ll see what December brings…
