A few notes and photos from our Spring Break adventure driving through California, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. I took very few photos with the big camera compared to what I might have done in the past. Just a few snaps capturing random moments. But it’s something. And I have found that the only way I can keep track of our adventures is to quickly write them down in whatever rushed spare moment I can find while we’re in the middle of it. So excuse the messy handwriting and any misspellings. Usually we’re either bumping down the road or exhausted in the camper after a long day when I find time to chicken scratch these bullet points down. But it’s something. And it’s so, so much better than nothing.
I was just having a conversation with a friend about this sort of thing a couple of hours ago. I hope that you kids learn long before I did how little it matters what other people think. Don’t do nothing because you can’t do everything perfectly. Don’t wait to do anything because you can’t do everything. Don’t wait until everything is perfect to act. Live. Now. Do what you can now. Use what you have, now, to the best of the ability you have now. The time you have, utilize it. When we spend our lives waiting for everything to line up, nothing ever happens. When I was a teenager, we didn’t have social media. I can’t even imagine what it will be like for you kids when you’re teenagers, the pressure that will be on you with your living so in the spot light. Peer pressure is on a whole new level these days. Image control (meaning, worrying about how people see you and making choices based on your idea of what other people think) is on a whole new level. Don’t let imaginings (accurate or not) about other people’s perceptions affect the decisions you make. Most of what you think other people think isn’t even real. And when it is real, it doesn’t matter. You miss out when you base your life choices on what other people think. Ultimately it only matters what God thinks. Know what He thinks about you. Adjust as needed. Live for Him. Love people the way He wants you to. The rest, it’s just misspelled words. And a misspelled word isn’t the end of the world.
Well, that was a tangent, but I don’t write in here enough and this was on my heart today. I’m sure we’ll have these conversations (and already do) as you grow. You have to let your Momma give you some advice every now and then.
Anyway, point being…
This journal (the photogrphed pages come from a journal that we keep in the camper) is becoming a treasure. The memories are precious even when the method of preservation isn’t perfect. xoxo
