Happy Birthday, baby girl! You’re a big 1-year-old now and we had the party to prove it.
We played “How Old is Adela?” I printed and hung my favorite photos of you from each month of your first year and then all your guests had to guess how old you were in each photo. Your Granny T won and Tia Carmen came in a close second (Mima knew the answers so she sat it out to be fair.)
So many people who loved you came. Granny and Grandpa T and Auntie Steph flew in from the NW just to share this day with you. You adore them all and we are so happy every time they get to visit us.
They were super helpful in preparing for your party. Auntie Steph and Mima and I baked and decorated almost 100 cupcakes, all different, while Granny took care of you.
And of course your Mima and Papi were there to share your special day.
And your Tia Carmen, who also adores you!
You looked so pretty in your pink satin shoes, sparkly crown and beautiful brown and pink dress your Mima picked out for you.
We hung a cupcake pinata in the back yard for the kids. You helped me take a couple swings at it, and thought it was pretty fun!
And we baked you a giant cupcake and slathered it with whipped cream for you to enjoy. You gave it a shot, but were so tired by cake time that you were only mildly interested in it. But it’s okay.
You lasted much longer than I thought you would, skipping your afternoon nap in favor of our celebration. You always surprise me, darling. You are always more resilient, more interested, more interesting, sweeter, cuter and generally more amazing that I anticipate. You always wow me, which is crazy because I know how wonderful and amazing you are!
I love you so much, and even though I’m sad to see you turn one so soon (didn’t I just bring you home from the hospital?), I am also looking forward to all the new things, experiences, personality traits, skills, smiles, laughs, challenges that are going to come with your second year. At every age, I’ve been hesitant to accept the passage of time, scared that things couldn’t possibly get any better than they already are, and yet every age surprises me with new, equally wonderful things. Truly, being your Momma gets better every day. Every day! It’s complete craziness, but it’s true.
I love you so much.
Happy Birthday, Waywee!
…and many more…
