Look at you. Look at your sweet face. My Jo. You are something else. You’d think a three-year-old looking at a picture book full of animals would want to comment on what they’re called, what color they are, or what sounds they make. But you’re most interested in how they’re feeling and their good or bad intentions. “He’s sad.” “He’s bad!” (with down-turned brow) “He’s looking for his Mommy…” (with longing face.) You study their expressions and try to figure them out. That pretty much sums you up. You are challenging because you are so *feeling*. You explode… with joy, with affection, with anger, with frustration, with energy, with determination. The hugest most frequent room-illuminating smiles, and the most epic earth-shattering meltdowns. You are the child who frequently studies my face, looks me deep in my eyes, and asks me, “Are you happy, Mommy?” You are 100% of everything emotive. My constant surprise, turned up to 10. You’re remarkable. And you love to talk with your hands.
We’ve had a month of almost constant sickness. We’ve had multiple colds, stomach viruses, flus, and infections. I had a fun case of strep throat that gratefully the two of you managed to not catch. For the moment, here at the end of the month, I *think* we are, at least temporarily, all well again. Adela missed several days of school this month due to being sick. It was nice to have you home, sick though you were.
Spring suddenly arrived, and with it all the blooming, and a week of delightful weather. It’s back to frosting at night this week, but just in time for the last day of winter, we were able to put our bathing suits on and play in the kiddie pool before it turned frigid again. If I’ve learned anything about living in the desert, it’s to not take the weather for granted. I check the forecast. It keeps us guessing. This has been an exceptionally long Winter/Spring. It had yet to get hot. I have a feeling the switch it going to be flipped at any moment, but for now, we’re enjoying it. The last of dryness has made for a lot of yardwork. I spent three days hulahoing the backyard (and only completed about 3/4s of it, but I’m calling it done.) You can see all the green behind you in the photos taken in our backyard before I knocked them all down. Some of the weeds were actually, literally, taller than Josiah.
We celebrated the last day of Daddy’s longest absence of the year by taking you to Chuck E. Cheese’s. The jeep was your favorite. Playing air hockey with you, Adela, was my favorite. And you did pretty darn good. I think I’m going to have to stay sharp to keep beating you. Consider it a challenge. I’ll play you any time, anywhere, girlfriend.
We put Adela’s hair is rags the night before Easter, and you slept in them. It turned out really cute! I’ll post some more pictures of your official Easter Egg hunt in my next post. Even though Easter is over now, it’s never really over with you two. You love to keep all the eggs and keep hiding and finding them. Josiah, you keep coming up to me with your little basket of empty eggs and asking, “Can we have a egg hunt, Mommy?” with your head all cocked to the side. It’s very sweet. We’ve had a dozen more egg hunts since Sunday.
