Special Report – Easter Egg Hunt 2012

A couple of weeks ago we picked up some fun stuff for the dollar store – carrot and egg ornaments and some fake tulips – and let you decorate an Easter Tree. It’s actually our Thanksgiving Tree, that ended up finding a permanent home in the living room. I think I’ll probably let you decorate it for all the major holidays. Fun. Who says there’s only 1 time every year when we should get to decorate a tree?

Easter morning we went to church and then came home to celebrate with Mima, Papi and Tia Carmen. Mima made you an awesome Easter basket full of (too many) goodies. And then we cooked up a feast. Half the people at the dinner table were NOT thrilled by my choice of menu, you being one of them. But you did try everything, at least a bite. 🙂 Daddy grilled asparagus on barbeque, and I baked some rosemary potatoes, made a Israeli couscous salad (delicious!) and roasted a leg of lamb. Actually everybody tried everything, I think. Even Papi, hehe. Thanks for humoring me. I thought it was delicious and so did Daddy and Mima. We have more adventurous palettes. Actually you ended up loving the lamb next day, so maybe you just weren’t hungry after all the candy (of which you partook white a bit BEFORE dinner) for this particular meal.

Then, I hid a bunch of eggs out in the front yard for you and you went on the hunt. A lot of gasping and clapping and serious searching. You had so much fun. And you looked so pretty, baby! First day I used a curling iron to curl your hair and you held sooo still for me when I did. You love all things girly and grown up. It’s really sweet. I was stoked to find you an actual CUTE Easter dress that wasn’t a bunch of huge floral print and bright (or gross pastel) colors. I don’t know what has happened to children’s clothing lately, but so much of it is tacky. This little white islet dress is just your style, sweet, classic and a little old-fashioned. Love it. You are the cutest 2 year old I’ve ever seen. And I’m allowed to be biased, but I also don’t think it’s necessary. 🙂

The next day I read you the Easter Story, from a children’s book, but it’s a pretty advanced children’s book. I didn’t know if you would get it… or even sit through it.  It has more words than your typical story. But you were riveted through the whole thing. You pointed at Jesus on the cross and said “Yeowy” and then buried your head in my arm. It broke my heart. It is amazing how the Lord can speak to kids, even little ones like you.  I pray he gives me the wisdom to share the truth of who he is with you. May you always know how much he loves you and how much he wants to be involved in your life.

Happy Easter, baby! Here’s to another year of celebrating Jesus, risen, and the hope that gives us.
